On Wednesday, 8th January 2025, the third, fourth and fifth formers of our school had the honor of watching a play called “The Visit”, which was written by Philip Dart. The performance took place at Salzhof Freistadt and was performed by the actors of “Vienna´s English Theatre Schooltours”.
The play “The Visit” is about three diverse students named Jez, Lewis and Abby, who are sharing an apartment near university. One night a detective visits them in order to question them about a specific person, who was believed to have committed suicide on university grounds. Detective Teena Whitsom wants to find out who this girl was and if those three knew her or even had anything to do with her death. During the bizarre questioning everybody´s biggest missteps from their past were brought out into the open. At first nobody wanted to accept their bad behavior and didn´t want to take on responsibility for their actions. But after some thinking they realized what a huge, negative impact they had on the present.
The ending was very sudden and didn´t clarify what was actually happening and therefore it was an open ending, which we honestly didn´t appreciate much, because we definitely wanted to find out how the storyline was supposed to end.
For approximately one hour we were allowed to experience excellent acting. Every actor played their roles with lots of passion, but what struck us most was the performance of the detective, who played various roles. However, she was able to change her complete set of behaviors within a few seconds, which was pretty impressive.
All in all, we were delighted to spend time at Salzhof Freistadt to experience such an interesting and mysterious play. It was definitely a great experience for all of us and we are looking forward to their next performance.
